The City of Palos Verdes Estates is seeking their next Police Chief!
With approximately 13,500 residents, Palos Verdes Estates is known for being a planned community with tranquil neighborhoods and is the oldest of four cities on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Residents enjoy magnificent views of the Los Angeles Basin and Pacific Ocean, low density, rural character, preserved open space, low crime, and excellent schools. The mission of the Police Department is to provide an assurance of safety, comfort, and tranquility to the community; while in this endeavor maintaining the utmost in professionalism, competence, integrity, and discipline. The City is seeking an innovative and experienced law enforcement professional. The ideal candidate will be an inspirational leader and experienced executive who will engage with members of the community, City staff, and sworn and civilian personnel. The successful candidate will model a commitment to community policing and will cultivate effective partnerships. The Chief will act as a leader and mentor, promoting teamwork and collaboration within the Department.
Qualified candidates possess a Bachelor’s degree, with major coursework in Police Sciences, Business, Public Administration, or a related field, along with five (5) years of California law enforcement experience at a supervisory level of sergeant or above, including a minimum of one year at the rank of Police Captain. Current employment, or honorable retirement (within the last three years) from California police agency certified by the State Commission on Peace Officers’ Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) is required. A Master’s degree along with Advanced and Management certificates from the State Commission on Peace Officers` Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) is desired.
The annual salary range for the Police Chief is $165,828 to $204,720; placement within this range is dependent on qualifications and experience.
