The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), an agency of the City and County of San Francisco is responsible for the management of all public transportation in the City. SFMTA keeps people connected through the San Francisco Municipal Railway (Muni), the nation’s seventh largest public transit system. SFMTA is seeking a highly qualified, collaborative, and driven leader for the position of Streets Director. This dynamic professional will direct and deliver a complex portfolio of projects and programs to further San Francisco’s values of equity, justice, and environmental stewardship. The Streets Division encompasses over 1,000 employees with an annual operating budget of $320 million and a 5-year Capital Improvement Program of $1.25 billion. Under broad policy direction from the Director of Transportation, the Streets Division Director is responsible for developing and implementing the Agency’s Strategic Plan within the Division.

The SFMTA is seeking a nimble changemaker, gifted communicator, and experienced manager of transportation or public works projects to help lead our efforts to eliminate traffic violence, decarbonize the transport sector, advance social equity, repair past harms, and foster the city’s post-COVID economic recovery efforts. We are looking for candidates who have the executive and administrative experience to lead a large division within a complex multi-modal public agency, the vision and tact to drive culture change, and the political acumen to navigate the complex landscape that is San Francisco civic life.

The annual salary range for the Streets Division Director is $285,116 to $330,044; placement within this range is dependent on qualifications and experience.
