The mission of the County of Monterey is to excel at providing quality services for the benefit of all county residents while developing, maintaining, and enhancing the resources in the area. The County Counsel reports directly to the Board of Supervisors and provides legal advice and representation in all civil matters to the Board, all county officers and the governing bodies of certain special districts. The County Counsel is responsible for providing complex legal advice, assistance, and representation in civil legal matters to the officers and employees of the County of Monterey, Monterey County Water Resources Agency, and the committees and commissions of the County, providing opinions concerning their actions, duties and powers, and representing them in lawsuits. The ideal candidate will be deliberate, have steadfast confidence and hold a distinguished record of professional accomplishments that demonstrate their ability to effectively lead a public sector law office of approximately two dozen attorneys. The successful candidate will have a track record of building collaborative relationships with elected officials, department heads, key community stakeholders, partnering agencies, be an effective team builder, and have awareness of the County’s cultural diversities.

The salary range for this position is $219,471 - $299,753 annually with an excellent benefits package.
