Situated in Southeast Los Angeles next to the L.A. River and 710 Freeway, the City of Cudahy (approximate population 23,000) is both a small city and part of a large metropolis. Cudahy offers a “small-town feel” while being in a central location, close to major shopping, events, parks, and many recreational opportunities. The Public Works Director/Engineer supervises, plans, organizes, directs, and administers the activities and operations of the City’s Public Works Department under direct supervision of the City Manager. This position has full responsibility for providing direction and oversight for the department’s key operational areas, including engineering, street building, landscape maintenance, and contract administration. The City is seeking a proactive, collaborative, and responsive candidate to serve as the next Public Works Director/Engineer. The incoming Director will be a dynamic leader with strong management, organization, and communication skills, who offers a proven track record of effectively overseeing capital improvement projects and public works operations. Qualified candidates possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering or a related field. Six (6) consecutive years of increasingly responsible experience managing diverse public works operations, including two (2) years supervising, managing, and/or directing a division or department is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A valid registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the state of California is required.

The salary range for the Public Works Director/Engineer is $136,404 to $165,804 annually. Placement within this range is dependent on qualifications and experience. The City also offers an excellent benefits package.
