Detailed Description : PDF

The County of Monterey, with its moderate Mediterranean climate, is a diverse community on the picturesque central coast of California and rich in agriculture. Miles of beautiful beaches, spectacular mountain ranges, groves of redwoods, low-rolling foothills, and scenic valleys are characteristics that contribute to the quality of life enjoyed by over 432,000 residents and millions of visitors. Under general direction of the County Administrative Officer, and in collaboration with elected and appointed Department Heads, the Human Resources Director is responsible for developing strategic initiatives that support the County’s most important asset: its employees. The Human Resources Director oversees a department with 38 full-time equivalent positions, administers and directs a comprehensive human resources management program, and formulates and recommends policies, regulations, and practices to carry out the program.

The County of Monterey is seeking a strong, collaborative, and experienced human resources professional who can take an already well-functioning Human Resources Department to the next level. The ideal candidate will be a strategist who operates in a results-driven, hands-on fashion and demonstrates the ability to multi-task and be flexible to adapt to a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Any combination of training, education and/or experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities and required conditions of employment listed above is qualifying. An example of a way these requirements might be acquired, include completion of all course work leading to a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Personnel Administration, or a closely related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible human resources management, including at least three (3) years of public sector experience in an administrative or supervisory capacity. Human resources experience in the California public sector is highly desirable.

The annual salary range for the Human Resources Director is $172,536 - $235,644; placement within this range is dependent on qualifications and experience. The County also offers an excellent benefits package.
