Vancouver, Washington is seeking a new Public Works Director who shares its core values of collaboration, inclusion, innovation, compassion, and empowerment. With a fast-growing population of over 200,000 residents the City is now the second largest community in the Portland, Oregon metro area. Located on the northern banks of the Columbia River a short 90 miles inland from the Pacific Coast, Vancouver enjoys spectacular views of the Cascade Mountains to the east. The ideal candidate has the expertise and confidence to lead the City’s largest department, is dedicated to the betterment of the community and has a proven track record of excellent leadership, motivation, and cultivation of staff. A forward thinking and emotionally intelligent candidate with a problem-solving mindset will do well. Qualified candidates possess the equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering or public administration and eight (8) years of broad and extensive experience in the provision of urban public works services including experience in a combination of water, sewer, stormwater, solid waste, construction management, or operations and maintenance, plus supervisory responsibility. A Master’s Degree and / or PE certification are preferred but not required.
The salary range for the Public Works Director is $14,312 to $19,363 monthly and placement within this range is dependent upon experience. The City also offers a generous benefits package.
