The new Assistant City Manager will join a well-established and thriving local municipality. The staff and leadership team for the City of San Rafael is high-functioning, collaborative and forward-thinking. Under general direction from the City Manager, the Assistant City Manager will act as the City’s Chief Administrative Officer, providing oversight to Human Resources, Information Technology, and Finance through the Management Services Department. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills are essential to the candidate’s success and the new Assistant City Manager will be expected to establish good working relationships throughout the organization.

The City is seeking an Assistant City Manager who is able to gain complete confidence from the City Manager. Any combination of experience and education that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for this position is qualifying. A typical way to obtain these would be a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business administration, finance, or public administration (Master’s degree is desirable), and seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in municipal government.
The City of San Rafael offers an attractive compensation and benefits program. Effective July 1, 2023, the salary range for this position is $202,188 – $245,760 annually. Placement within this range is dependent on qualifications and experience.
