Located in Orange County, approximately 25 miles southwest of Downtown Los Angeles, the City of Anaheim (population 356,000) is one of the nation’s premier municipalities and California’s 10th most populous city. Anaheim is a modern, diverse city with a proud history dating back to its 1857 founding. The City has many housing options, including picturesque Anaheim Hills, historic and established downtown, and West Anaheim neighborhoods. The Anaheim Police Department is committed to partnering with the community, remaining innovative, strategic, and collaborative in how they provide exceptional public safety service in their ongoing mission to maintain a safe community to live, work and play. The City is seeking a strong, experienced, and knowledgeable law enforcement professional with proven managerial and leadership capabilities to serve as its next Chief of Police. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator and collaborator with a strong orientation towards community policing, and a visionary leader with the ability to assess the current organization with the courage and ingenuity to challenge the status quo. The Chief of Police shall be approachable, firm but fair decision-maker, and committed to creating a culture of inclusion and comradery and an environment where teamwork is valued.

At a minimum, candidates must possess fifteen (15) years of increasingly responsible law enforcement experience including five (5) years of management and administrative responsibility in a comprehensive law enforcement agency. Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university. POST Command College, FBI National Academy, California Police Chiefs Executive Leadership Institute and/or a Master’s degree are highly desirable, but not required. Bilingual speaking abilities in English and Spanish are also a plus. Candidates must obtain, within one year, or possess, a P.O.S.T. Management Certificate and an appropriate, valid driver’s license.

The annual salary range for the incoming Chief of Police is $174,880 – $288,552; placement in this range is dependent upon qualifications. The City also offers an attractive benefits package.
