The area served by the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District, known as “Metro Fire”, is ideally located within less than two hours of the San Francisco Bay Area and Napa Valley, and is close in proximity to Lake Tahoe and the northern portion of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Metro Fire serves a population of over 738,000 within a 358-square mile radius and is the 7th largest fire agency in California. Metro Fire’s mission is to provide professional and compassionate protection, education, and service to the community. The District has core values of integrity, professionalism, teamwork, and devotion to duty. Under policy direction of the Board of Directors, the Fire Chief provides management to all Fire District divisions and programs and ensures the safety, health, and wellbeing of individuals and property through a comprehensive range of programs. Metro Fire is seeking a professional, inclusive, and experienced leader to serve as the next Fire Chief. The ideal candidate will have excellent mentorship skills with focus and dedication to teamwork. The incoming Fire Chief will have experience in an executive level position and will have the ability to identify and respond to the community and Fire District concerns and needs. The Fire Chief will be an effective leader who displays confidence, strength of character, and will be an advocate for continuous learning and development. Qualified candidates possess a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in fire science, public administration, business or personnel management, or another closely related field, and must have Chief Officer level experience with increasingly responsible fire service management in local government firefighting and prevention that would provide broad and extensive expertise in an administrative and supervisory capacity. A state or nationally recognized fire service, vocational certification level equivalent to a California State Fire Academy Chief Officer’s Certification is desired. An advanced degree such as a M.A., M.S., M.B.A., or Doctorate degree is also desired. Qualified candidates must have California executive level fire service experience.

The monthly salary for the Fire Chief is $26,684.85. Salary placement will be dependent on qualifications and experience. The District also offers an attractive benefits package.
