Spokane Valley Fire Department serves the Cities of Spokane Valley, Liberty Lake, Millwood, and parts of unincorporated Spokane County, including the communities of Otis Orchards, Pasadena Park, and the area surrounding Liberty Lake. SVFD provides the following services, Fire Suppression, Advanced Life Support Emergency Medical Services, Technical Rescue, Vehicle Extrication, Hazardous Materials Response, Swift Water Rescue, Fire Investigations, Fire Prevention, Community Risk Reduction, Commercial Property Inspections, CPR and Fire Safety Training. The department responded to 22,443 calls for service in 2021 with 82%of those being emergency medical service calls. The Department’s service area covers 75 square miles and has a combined population of over 136,000. Within the response area there are 43,000 homes, one major hospital, 4,500 business, 20 nursing homes, 53 schools, Union Pacific-Burlington-Santa Fe railroad, Interstate 90, and approximately 13 miles of the Spokane River. SVFD has an overall Washington Survey and Rating Bureau (WSRB formerly ISO rating) of “2”.

The Spokane Valley Fire Department is seeking a trustworthy and analytical individual to serve as its new Director of Human Resources. Under the direction of the Fire Chief, the Director of Human Resources leads the activities of the Human Resources Division and provides leadership and strategic services for planning, development, implementation, administration and maintenance of the department’s compensation, benefits, leave/ADA, workers’ compensation, and labor relations. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable and experienced in employee relations, compensation, civil service, and in all disciplines of human resources. Additionally, the ideal candidate possesses executive-level presentation and communication skills, is able to build and lead a strong and effective team and is prepared to align human resources objectives with organizational needs. The selected candidate will be flexible, tactful, and understanding, and will have a service-before-self mindset. The annual salary for the Human Resources Director is $150,648, with the first year of service compensated at 95 percent of the salary ($143,115).
