On the banks of the Willamette River and surrounding a 405-acre lake, Lake Oswego (the City) is considered one of Oregon’s finest residential communities. Located among many of the State’s most scenic attractions including Mount Hood, the Oregon Coast, and the Columbia River Gorge, it is a community of 40,716 residents that offers all of the amenities of a thriving suburb. The City of Lake Oswego is seeking an experienced, well-rounded law enforcement professional to serve as its next Police Chief. Under general direction, the Police Chief plans, organizes and directs the City Police Department including emergency communications, investigations, patrol, traffic, training, crime prevention, behavioral health, property control, community services, and records. The next Police Chief will have the ability to collaborate with others inside and outside City government to identify issues, creatively solve problems, and protect the life, liberty, and property of Lake Oswego’s residents and businesses through a community policing approach. The Department delivers excellent customer service to the community, and that standard of service will be carried on by the Department with the Chief leading that effort. Any combination of education or experience providing the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for satisfactory job performance is qualifying. A typical candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in Social Science, Public Administration or Business Administration from an accredited college or university and seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in a municipal law enforcement agency. The annual salary for the Police Chief position is $133,603 - $162,474; placement within this range is dependent on qualifications.
