Founded in 1866, Kern County (the County) is home to a thriving population of nearly 914,000 people. The County is seeking an experienced Assistant Director of Public Works with knowledge of technical engineering theories, principles, and practice as applied to the field of public works. The ideal candidate will also have a comprehensive understanding of the State and Federal laws and regulations that govern public construction and the maintenance of infrastructure. The successful candidate will be comfortable engaging with and representing the department before a wide variety of institutions, including the public. The Assistant Director of Public Works will bring five (5) years of experience in the field of the registered specialty which includes three (3) years of supervisory or management level experience in a public works environment. A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited four (4) year college or university is required. Possession of a valid Registration as a Civil Engineer in the State of California is required. Certification as a Building Official from the International Code Council (ICC) is required. The annual base salary range for the Assistant Director of Public Works is $128,990 - $154,150; placement within this range is dependent upon qualifications.
