Located on the south shore of the Columbia River, the City of Astoria features many charming Victorian homes, as it is one of the oldest cities in the State of Oregon. The Astoria Police Department has a long and rich history of serving the community and follows the motto of “dedicated to duty, committed to community.” The City is seeking a committed, approachable, and inspiring Chief of Police with the ability to maintain collaborative relationships with staff, City officials, the general public, and neighboring departments. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of outstanding character and integrity, and approaches day to day operations with an optimistic, can-do attitude with a focus on end results and continuous improvement.
Qualified candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree in Law Enforcement, Criminology, Public Administration, or a related field, and must have a minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience in law enforcement; six (6) years of increasingly responsible management level experience in a comparable size law enforcement agency, of which at least two (2) years must have been at a Police Lieutenant position or equivalent. The annual salary range for the Chief of Police is $92,778.03 to $112,772.27. Placement within this range is dependent on qualifications and experience. The Chief is also provided with pay premiums for DPSST certifications as follows:
Advanced-3.5% and Intermediate-3.5%
Supervisory-5% or Middle Management-10%
