The Chico Area Recreation & Park District (CARD) is seeking a strong, well-rounded leader to serve as the General Manager. An individual with a balance of technical abilities and emotional intelligence is sought. The Board is seeking a candidate with a strong finance background and exceptional analytical, verbal, and written communication skills who is politically astute, yet apolitical, and who can speak effectively and comfortably before groups of Board members, managers, and staff, as well as regional partners and the media. Candidates must have graduated from a recognized college or university with specialization in recreation and park management, public administration, or a closely related field. A minimum five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional experience in recreation and park work, including at least three (3) years in a high-level supervisory or administrative capacity is required. The Board of Directors may choose to substitute experience for education in some cases. Certification such as National Recreation and Park Association CPRP and/or CPRF certification or Special District Administrator Certification from the Special District Leadership Foundation is desirable. The annual salary for the General Manager position is negotiable and dependent upon qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
