The City of Marion is searching for a Deputy City Manager (Deputy) to join one of Iowa’s fastest-growing communities. As Deputy, the successful candidate will be in a key leadership role in the organization. The Deputy will lead a slate of City departments, carry out strategic initiatives per the direction of the City Manager, represent the City with external partners and foster responsive government and continued organizational development of 230+ employees. The ideal candidate could be described as a strategic thinker, team builder, and excellent communicator. The selected individual will have strong organizational skills and a demonstrated history as an outstanding collaborator. They will be enthusiastic, positive, and motivating with a commitment to service above self. The candidate will have an inviting personality, demonstrate humility, and set high expectations. The Deputy will play a key role in leading organizational change and innovation as employee culture evolves and new public and employee expectations are embraced. Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, or another closely related field; a Master’s degree is preferred, but not required. Extensive professional-level experience as a department head or in other city management capacity with similar scope and responsibility will be valued. ICMA Credentialed Manager preferred. The annual salary for the Deputy City Manager position is $104,130 - $153,133 (under review); placement within this range is dependent upon qualifications and experience.
