California State University, Chico (CSU, Chico or Chico State) has a special and much-beloved character that enhances the experience of all who are a part of the campus community. The CSU, Chico Police Department is comprised of a diverse contingent of men and women who dedicate themselves every day to upholding the department’s mission. Chico State seeks and experienced, inspirational, and community service-oriented leader as Chief of Police. The selected Chief will be viewed as the face of the department and must be comfortable communicating effectively with a diverse student, faculty, staff, and campus community. The ideal candidate must demonstrate the ability to effectively and efficiently manage a complex organization, have exceptional writing, speaking, analytical, and organizational skills, and success in securing and managing external funding for departmental initiatives. Consideration for this position requires graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field, or equivalent. Candidates must possess at least fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible experience in a sworn law enforcement setting, including three (3) years of management experience. Candidates must satisfy all California P.O.S.T. minimum employment standards and possess, or be able to obtain, a P.O.S.T. Management Certificate. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license is required. The annual salary range for the incoming Chief of Police is $160,000-$170,000; placement within this range depends on relevant qualifications and experience.
