The City of Richmond is a growing maritime, industrial and residential community with a vibrant and diverse population of 110,000, thriving and changing economy, a dynamic business environment and a strong potential for further growth. Located approximately 16 miles from downtown San Francisco and covering 56 square miles, Richmond is a central transportation hub in the Bay Area. The City of Richmond seeks a Police Chief with a demonstrated commitment to community policing values and a proven track record in the successful development and implementation of strategic service delivery that promotes accountability, trust, improved morale, and outstanding community relations. The ideal candidate for this position will be a seasoned, decisive administrator and effective manager with the command presence and experience to build relationships of trust, respect, credibility, and confidence with the rank-and-file members of the Department. Candidates must possess equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from a college or university with major course work in Police Science, Administration of Justice, Public or Business Administration or a related field. A Master’s degree, FBI National Academy, California Police Chiefs Executive Leadership Institute and/or POST Command College are desirable but not required. Applicants for the position should have a broad range of experience in all phases of police work. Applicants must have a minimum of 10 years of law enforcement experience, with at least 4 years at the rank of Lieutenant (2nd level supervisor) or higher. The compensation for Police Chief is up to $250,000 annually (subject to City Council approval).
