Coronado, also known as Coronado Island, is a small city with a village atmosphere, rich in history and natural beauty. While the City measures only 7.4 square miles, it has 28 miles of pristine beaches, 18 public parks, and an 18-hole public golf course. The City of Coronado is seeking a proven administrator to serve as the new Building Official. A progressive leader and creative problem solver with strong interpersonal and managerial skills will be valued. Qualified candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with major coursework in planning, structural engineering, civil engineering, architecture, construction technology, public administration, or a related field; at least four (4) years of increasingly responsible building inspection experience, as well as Building Inspector certification issued through the International Code Council. Experience in a supervisory capacity is not required but is highly desirable. Building Official and Fire Inspector certifications are not required at the time of appointment but will be required within one year of employment with the City. The salary range for the Building Official is $114,618 to $153,600 annually and is dependent upon qualifications and experience. The City also participates in CalPERS, offering a 3 @ 60 retirement formula for Classic members.
