The Fontana Unified School District is seeking a self-confident and decisive leader for their new Chief of Police Services. Fontana Unified is located in Southern California in what is known as the Inland Empire and is one of only 17 school districts in the State of California that have an in-house Police Department. Reporting to the District’s Superintendent, the Chief of Police Services directs and manages the Police Services Department by coordinating daily operations to provide a safe environment for students and staff. The ideal candidate will be honest, trustworthy, ethical, and possess the highest level of integrity. Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in police science, law enforcement, administration of justice, business management, business administration, or a closely related field; a Master’s degree is desirable. Also required is a California POST Executive or Management Certificate (out of state candidates must possess POST Peace Officer status in California within eighteen (18) months of employment); successful completion of the FBI National Academy, POST Command College and/or California Police Chief’s Executive Leadership Institute is also desirable. A minimum of six (6) years of recent law enforcement experience, including two (2) years of experience at the level of a lieutenant or captain (2nd level supervisor) is required for consideration in this position. School police experience is preferred. The current annual salary range for the Chief of Police Services is $116,189-$138,570 and is under current review for adjustment; placement within this range is dependent upon qualifications and experience.
