Redwood City (population 85,992) is a San Francisco Bay Area community located in the County of San Mateo, 25 miles south of San Francisco and about 27 miles north of San Jose, in the heart of Silicon Valley. The community combines residential, industrial, and commercial elements in a largely urban environment. Redwood City is seeking an experienced human resources professional with a collaborative, engaging, and open style and a good balance of technical and interpersonal skills to serve as its next Human Resources Manager. The ideal candidate will bring proven leadership capabilities, a broad range of expertise in human resource functions, and a successful track record of working with bargaining groups. This is a dynamic and hands-on position, directly involved in labor negotiations, training, discipline, and other facets of human resources. This position, therefore, requires a candidate with excellent oral and written communication skills who is approachable, flexible, and a good listener. A proactive problem-solver and proven self-starter who is comfortable working autonomously and is not afraid to try new things is being sought. The successful candidate will be an excellent coach, mentor, and leader that inspires trust in others and creates an environment of teamwork throughout the organization. Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Typically, five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in all areas of human resources within the public sector, including recruitment and selection, employee relations, labor relations and negotiations, classification and compensation, workers’ compensation and safety with at least three (3) years in a supervisory capacity; and a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major study in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field, would be qualifying. A Master’s degree is highly desirable. Candidates must possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid California Driver’s License. The annual salary range for this position is $122,304 - $165,110, DOQ.
