Roseville Electric is the City’s electric utility provider. Its 130 employees proudly serve 52,000 residential and business customers located in Placer County, just east of Sacramento. As a municipal owned utility, Roseville Electric’s primary purpose is to provide highly reliable electricity to the businesses and residents of Roseville. The City is seeking an Electric Utility Director to oversee work flow and participate in the development of the Department’s work plan; projects and programs; and supervise the development and administration of the Electric Utility Department budget. The ideal candidate will have a track record of leadership in the electric utility industry. He/she should have a vision for the future, be well versed in strategic planning, the ability to develop strong teams, possesses experience with partnerships (JPAs) and working in a multidisciplinary organization. Candidates should have the ability to organize, direct and coordinate the activities of the Department; analyze problems and identify alternative solutions; interpret and apply City policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. The incoming Director will represent the City’s interests in proceedings of commissions, committees and working groups of joint powers agencies and other agencies. The ideal candidate should have a combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree with major course work in electrical engineering, business administration, public administration, economics or a related field. He/she should have seven years of electric utility experience, including five years of senior administrative and management responsibility. The salary range for the Electric Utility Director is $155,757 to $208,717. Placement within the range is dependent upon qualifications and experience.

Roseville Electric operates under the supervision of the City Manager. The seven member Roseville Public Utilities Commission serves as an advisory board to the City Council on matters pertaining to utilities owned and operated by the City. Customers are encouraged to participate in monthly Public Utility Commission meetings.
Roseville Electric’s rates are among the lowest in California and are 29% - 53% below the surrounding investor owned utility (depending on customer class).
For eight consecutive years, the utility has been honored by PA Consulting with its ReliabilityOne™ Award and in 2008 the utility received the RP3 Designation from the American Public Power Association recognizing its high workforce standards and excellent customer service standards.
Most recently, Roseville Electric was honored by the California Municipal Utilities Association for BEST Homes, a residential new construction program that integrates rooftop solar electric generation and high efficiency technology as a standard feature in new home developments.
Roseville Electric continually seeks innovative ways to promote energy efficiency and sustainable living practices. Roseville’s Utility Exploration Center offers a hands-on, high tech experience to help children and adults understand how the way they use electricity and water can affect the environment.
For the fiscal year ending June 30, 2009, Roseville Electric served 51,828 customers; collected $129 million in revenue and had 1,234 Gwh in energy sales.
The Roseville Energy Park is a natural gas fire plant and generates enough energy to meet 40 percent of the customers’ needs. The remainder of energy is purchased through a variety of sources described at right.
